Balancing Breastfeeding & Business: A Real Week In My Life
Being the Program Director of Hustle & Flow Dance is everything.
And by that, I mean it’s the glorious CEO #bossbabe moments right alongside the tough conversations no one wants to have. It’s the fun photoshoots and creative meetings interrupted by tech issues and client complaints. It’s … everything. And while I have a fabulous admin and social media team, there’s still plenty of behind-the-scenes magic (and chaos) that lands squarely on my plate.
Now layer in my 6-month-old exclusively breastfed baby, my 3-year-old deep in her “I can do it myself!” era, and my unofficial-but-very-real role as Household Manager (my husband handles maintenance, cars, and big-picture execution while I handle the schedule planning, cooking, and the actual big picture of holidays and events).
It’s controlled chaos and honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Here’s a peek into what a week in the life of this mompreneur with two under three really looks like.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
6am (ish) — Wake up whenever the baby decides it’s time to start the day. Breakfast with the kids, make coffee, and we get ready for daycare.
8am — Daycare drop-off for my big kid, and the baby’s first nap happens in the car.
8:30am — I’m “nap trapped” in the car with a coffee and my phone, and this is where time-blocking becomes my best friend.
Monday: Emails
Tuesday: Social media planning & filming
Wednesday: Program planning
10am (ish) — Baby wakes up, we head home, I do a quick tidy (dishes, laundry, etc.) and grab a snack (I keep prepped snacks in the fridge — game changer). If it’s a Tuesday, this is my filming window for reels or brand content.
12pm (ish) — Second nap! Laptop open. This is when I power through whatever else needs attention. If my husband’s home, I squeeze in a quick workout too.
2pm (ish) — Playtime! I try to be really present — no phone, no multitasking. These are the moments that remind me why I built this kind of life.
3pm — Daycare pickup and a full shift change into “mom mode.” Snacks, playtime, maybe a walk. From now until bedtime, my focus is 100% on them.
7:00pm — Bedtime routine. I nurse the baby while my toddler lays beside me. Or if it’s not a work day for my husband, he does toddler-bedtime while I do baby-bedtime. Once both kids are down (around 8–8:30pm), I’ll either read and unwind… or dive back into work for an hour or two, depending on how the day went.
Thursday
Thursdays and Fridays are family-focused days — my toddler’s home, and I do my best to keep my laptop closed until nap time.
Our mornings usually include appointments (chiro, doctor, dentist) or a walk to the park. The baby naps on the go, and I try to sneak in a workout somewhere in there too.
1pm (ish) — Naptime for both kids. It’s my cue to catch up on emails or anything time-sensitive before I log off for the weekend.
3pm - Naptime is over and we start the routine of snacks, playing, dinner, and bedtime.
Friday
Fridays are what I call “Flow Days.”
I keep things light and flexible. The whole family is usually home on Fridays so we spend time together doing whatever needs to be done around the house and exploring our neighbourhood. I will get a bit of work done before the weekend during naps - sometimes I batch content or brainstorm upcoming workshops. Other times, it’s pure catch-up mode - groceries, laundry, or just letting the baby nap on me while I watch Gilmore Girls.
And yes, it’s also Finance Friday! I make sure invoices are paid and accounts are squared away before the weekend begins.
Saturday & Sunday
Weekends are sacred. I try my best not to schedule anything work related on weekends but it’s not always doable.
Saturday mornings start with coffee dates with my daughter - our little tradition - followed by unpacking our weekly produce box and prepping food for the week ahead! You know I love to meal prep!
Sundays are all about family, waffles, and football. The laptop stays closed, and we see where the day takes us - maybe brunch with friends, maybe a cozy day at home in sweats.
Either way, Sundays are about slowing down before another big week begins.
What I’ve learned
Balancing breastfeeding and business isn’t picture-perfect - it’s messy, loud, unpredictable, and completely real.
Some days, I feel like I’m absolutely thriving: running a company, raising babies, keeping life moving. Other days, I’m buried under laundry, nursing on Zoom calls, and wondering if “balance” is even a real thing.
But here’s what I’ve learned: it’s not about perfect balance. It’s about the rhythm and flow that makes each season of motherhood and entrepreneurship unique.
And in this season? My hands (and my heart) are full - and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
